November 15th - 19th, 2021

Minnesota United Acts of Kindness Week is a week dedicated to promoting kindness, generosity, and love through acts of kindness toward friends and strangers alike.

Ways to Get Involved

A simple act of kindness can change someone’s day and can spark a chain reaction. It does not need to be a grand gesture; it can be walking your neighbor’s dog, buying a coffee for a co-worker, helping an elder with their groceries, or holding the door open for a stranger. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Plan an Event: Minnesota United Acts of Kindness Week is a great time to put your care for your community into action and set up a volunteer project at your workplace, student group, or family. Browse Bonfire for ideas, and get in touch with United Way at info@uwlakes.org or 218-999-7570 for planning support.

Make Cards of Kindness: Aging Adults | Children & Youth
Impact an individual with a personalized, handwritten note of encouragement. By reaching out with a personal card, you are helping them feel connected to the community and brightening their day.

Note: United Way can help distribute these kindness cards after they are written. Please call us at 999-7570 or email info@uwlakes.org to arrange a pickup or drop-off.

Take the Acts of Kindness Challenge: Throughout the week, complete good deeds for friends, neighbors, and strangers, and use social media to invite friends to join you. Learn more

Share Random Act of Kindness Cards: Request Random Act of Kindness cards from United Way to distribute as you perform acts of kindness throughout the week.

Join the Acts of Kindness Challenge

United Way of 1000 Lakes would like to invite you to join the movement and take the Acts of Kindness Challenge. The details are simple: for five days, perform at least one random act of kindness, big or small, every day.

  1. Perform at least one random act of kindness each day. Use a printable Kindness Challenge Card to set your kindness intentions for the week.
  2. Share your stories, photos, and videos on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and LinkedIn.
  3. Tag United Way of 1000 lakes and use #MNACTSOFKINDNESS, #LIVEUNITEDMN, and #UWAY1000LAKES.
  4. Nominate five friends (one for each day) and keep the kindness going.
  5. Bonus: show your support by wearing your Live United shirt. Get one free with a $25 donation.

Example status: #MNActsofKindness: My challenge nomination came from <insert friend>, and I will nominate  <insert 5 friends> to perform at least one random act of kindness each day for five days.
