United Way Seeks Board and Committee Members

Make an Impact on United Way’s Board of Directors

United Way of 1000 Lakes Board of Directors seeks new members to join them in Board and committee service. Interested community members should have a commitment to the Itasca area and desire to build partnerships and mobilize resources to create measurable and lasting impact in people’s lives.

The Board of Directors provides oversight, guidance, and strategic planning to the impact and operations of United Way. New board members would serve a three-year term, allowing them to renew their appointment once.

Applicants are welcome from all interested individuals, however the Board particularly welcomes applicants from individuals with the following attributes and competencies:

    • Geographic (persons connected to United Way’s Itasca County service area, including Bigfork, Bovey, Coleraine, Deer River, and Hill City)
    • Age (individuals who are 50 years or older)
    • Ethnicity (persons of color or indigenous people)
    • Experience (working in education, finance, health care, human resources management; fundraising background; public policy and government relations; or lived experience as a member of an equity-seeking population)

In addition to board service, United Way also seeks new members to contribute to the nonprofit’s activities and operations through the following committees:

    • Resource Development Committee members collaborate to create and implement new strategies to diversify and improve United Way’s revenue.
    • Community Impact Committee members lead United Way’s investment decisions regarding agencies, programs, and initiatives that best align with the Community Impact Agenda, including oversight of investment panels.
    • Marketing & Public Relations Committee members are charged with telling United Way’s story creatively and cohesively across various media channels throughout the entire year.

“We’re on the Board because we care about the Itasca area,” says Board President Leanna McBride. “When you join the Board of Directors, you can use your skills and abilities to make a real change in a place you care about.”

Prospective members are invited to attend a Meet & Greet at Rapids Brewing Co. on Thursday, April 13th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Community members can meet with United Way board and committee members, ask questions, and learn more about volunteer leadership roles.
