United Way of 1000 Lakes Continues Search for Community Leaders

United Way of 1000 Lakes is continuing its search for community leaders to serve on its 2026 Board of Directors and leadership committees, with the new board term beginning in July 2026.

Following a recent community Meet & Greet that brought together supporters, partners, and current leadership, the organization is encouraging interested individuals to step forward and explore how they can help guide United Way’s work across Itasca County.

“Leadership at United Way is about bringing people together to solve challenges and strengthen our community,” said Kim Brink Smith, Executive Director. “We’re excited to welcome new voices and perspectives to help move this work forward.”

United Way’s Board of Directors provides governance and strategic direction for initiatives that advance Youth Opportunity, Healthy Communities, Financial Stability, and Community Resilience.

“Board service has been an incredibly rewarding way to stay connected to the needs of our community while helping shape solutions,” said Board President Hannah Madden. “We encourage anyone who cares about the future of Itasca County to consider getting involved.”

Board members serve three-year terms and work alongside staff, volunteers, and community partners to guide programs and investments that improve lives throughout the region.

  • United Way is also seeking volunteers for several leadership committees:
  • Resource Development Committee – Supports fundraising strategy, grant funding, planned giving, and donor engagement.
  • Community Impact Committee – Guides community investments and strategic initiatives addressing local needs.
  • Marketing & Communications Committee – Strengthens storytelling, outreach, and public engagement efforts.

Applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and professional experiences are encouraged to apply. Training and mentorship are available to help new members succeed in their roles.

Community members interested in serving are encouraged to apply online or contact United Way to learn more.
