United Way of 1000 Lakes Approved as Charitable Federation in 2026 Minnesota Combined Charities Campaign
State of Minnesota employees and retirees will once again have the opportunity to give back to their communities through the Minnesota Combined Charities Campaign, running throughout October.
Participating charities apply to be part of the campaign and are assessed each year by Minnesota Management and Budget to ensure they meet stringent statutory guidelines for accountability. United Way of 1000 Lakes has been approved as a participating charitable federation in this year’s campaign. With headquarters in Grand Rapids and a strong community presence, all funds directed to the nonprofit stay in Itasca County and surrounding communities, supporting programs and services that help families build stability, improve health, and access educational opportunities.
“As both a DNR employee and a United Way board member, I’m lucky to see the impact from both sides,” said Mike Larson. “Payroll giving is easy—it comes right out of my check—and the best part is knowing it stays local to help families right here at home.”
The 2026 drive will kick off with a virtual launch event on Tuesday, September 30th at 11 a.m. The program will feature keynote speaker Tony Sanneh, former professional soccer player and executive director of the Sanneh Foundation; a special video message from Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan; and remarks from Lindsay Kerwin, Combined Charities board chair.
Employees can give through payroll deduction, choosing either a one-time gift or recurring donation. Pledges can be started or updated anytime, but the annual drive—October 1–31—serves as the campaign’s centerpiece, when employees across Minnesota unite to maximize their collective impact. Enrollment is not automatic—employees must re-enroll annually. To register for the launch event and enroll in the program, visit mn.gov/mmb/combined-charities.
Even modest donations add up—a pledge of just $10 per pay period (about $260 a year) can make a real difference for families in our communities.
