United Way to Host Community Meet & Greet March 25
United Way of 1000 Lakes is inviting community members to connect, learn, and explore leadership opportunities at an upcoming Board & Leadership Meet and Greet on Wednesday, March 25 from 4–6 p.m. at Rapids Brewing Co.
The casual gathering will offer an opportunity to meet United Way’s current board and committee leaders, enjoy small bites and refreshments, and learn how community members can play a role in guiding the organization’s future impact.
United Way is currently recruiting individuals to serve on its 2026 Board of Directors and leadership committees, with the new board term beginning in July 2026.
“Strong communities depend on engaged leadership,” said Kim Brink Smith, Executive Director of United Way of 1000 Lakes. “We’re looking for individuals who care deeply about Itasca County and want to help guide strategies that strengthen families, expand opportunity, and improve lives.”
The United Way Board of Directors provides governance, strategic direction, and oversight for the organization’s work across four focus areas: Youth Opportunity, Healthy Communities, Financial Stability, and Community Resilience.
“Serving on the board has given me the opportunity to contribute my skills in a meaningful way while helping guide work that truly impacts our community,” said United Way incoming Board President Danielle Witherill. “It’s a chance to work alongside thoughtful leaders who care deeply about the future of Itasca County.”
Board members typically serve three-year terms and collaborate with community partners to advance initiatives that improve lives across the region.
In addition to board service, United Way is also seeking volunteers to serve on leadership committees that support the organization’s work:
- Resource Development Committee – Supports fundraising strategy, corporate partnerships, grant funding, planned giving, and donor engagement.
- Community Impact Committee – Helps guide community investments, partnerships, and initiatives addressing local needs.
- Marketing & Communications Committee – Provides insight on storytelling, outreach strategies, and community engagement.
United Way welcomes applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including individuals with expertise in business, finance, education, health care, marketing, public policy, nonprofit leadership, and community development.
Training and mentorship are provided for new members.
Community members interested in learning more about leadership opportunities are encouraged to attend the Meet & Greet or explore opportunities online.
