Day of Action Focuses on Building Assets

Day of Action, on June 21st, is an annual day of service sponsored by United Way of 1000 Lakes. Drawing more than 100 volunteers of all skills sets together each year, Day of Action is the largest of United Way’s volunteer initiatives.

This year’s efforts will concentrate on helping residents preserve their assets through a partnership with Itasca County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (ICHRA) and Itasca County Habitat for Humanity. The collaboration will connect residents in the Oakland Addition neighborhood to home improvement programs, including funding through the Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) and the Home Preservation Program. Work will be completed by contractors and/or volunteers, depending on the range of work, which may include energy efficient modifications, faucet installation, painting, landscaping, minor interior repairs, and exterior maintenance.
