What inspired you to be involved with United Way?
I’ve seen United Way’s impact in our community and was looking for a meaningful way to get involved and give back. After attending an event to learn more, I realized this was an organization where I could make a real difference. I also saw opportunities to use the tools and connections I have to help support our local United Way chapter in a variety of ways.

What is the most rewarding thing you’ve taken from this experience?
Hearing the stories of impact from programs United Way has funded. These stories not only help clear up misconceptions about local services but also reinforce my “why” for being involved. I continue to be impressed by the work United Way is doing right here in our community.

What is one word you would use to sum up United Way’s work?
Impactful

What impresses you most about the Itasca area?
There’s SO much to do here—way more than I expected before moving! What really stands out to me, though, is how our small communities step up for one another, in both times of crisis and celebration. As someone who’s personally experienced this kind of support during a family crisis, I can say it’s truly unbelievable. I’m also heavily involved in local youth sports, and the community send-offs and support for state-bound teams and events are so special. It’s inspiring to be part of it.

What’s one thing about United Way that you think most people don’t know?
That our work is LOCAL. Many people assume United Way is just a big national or global organization, but the impact we make is right here—in our own backyards—serving neighbors in our local communities.

What advice would you give to a potential donor who is considering investing in United Way?
Look into the different ways you can direct your giving, and take time to explore the stories—through videos and testimonials—of those who’ve benefited from United Way-supported programs. It had a huge impact on me, and I think it will on you too. You might even find yourself wanting to join one of our incredible and impactful committees!
