Board Spotlight: Dr. Leanna McBride, Board President

Dr. Leanna McBride works as a dentist at Grand Dental Center in Grand Rapids. She and her husband, Tom, are thrilled to live with their two young children in their hometown. In her free time, Leanna enjoys being active outdoors, celebrating the area’s natural beauty, and spending time with her friends and family. Family brought her and Tom back to the area, and she feels lucky to be close to them.

What inspired you to be involved with United Way?
I loved growing up in Grand Rapids, and I want it to be a thriving, prosperous community for my children to live, play, and grow here. All people deserve a chance to succeed. United Way’s mission is to serve the Itasca County area and support non-profits that strive to make our hometown a safe and healthy place for every community member. I am honored to be a part of making that mission a reality.

What is the most rewarding thing you have taken from this experience?
It has been inspiring to see community members from all walks of life come together and support one another for the good of our area. I am always impressed by the organizations and individuals here to help our fellow community members. Getting to be a part of that experience has been incredibly rewarding.

What is one word you would use to sum up United Way’s work?
Community

What is one thing about United Way you think most people don’t know?
United Way supports far more organizations and initiatives than I ever realized before I joined the board. Its support is interwoven throughout many organizations that make our community better.

What advice would you give to a potential donor considering investing in United Way?
When you invest in United Way, you fight for basic human needs such as food, shelter, and safety from violence or abuse; stand up for youth without support; and battle for hard-working families struggling to make ends meet. You can invest in multiple ways, whether donating financially or giving back through volunteerism. Helping in any capacity goes a long way and makes a big difference!
