She also keeps busy volunteering with United Way, staying active at the YMCA, going for walks, and sharing coffee and conversation with friends and family.
What inspired you to be involved with United Way?
I can remember years ago, as an educator in this area, volunteering at many community events sponsored by United Way. I was always struck by the number of people who came out to participate—and even more by the positive impact these events had on local residents. After retiring, I’ve had more time to volunteer and have truly enjoyed the feeling of helping out and knowing that, together, we’re making a huge difference in the lives of people across our county.
Most recently, I had the opportunity to serve on the Community Investment Panel, reviewing grants from local agencies alongside six other panelists. It was an incredible experience. I learned so much about United Way’s mission and purpose, and I came away both impressed and inspired to deepen my involvement. That experience sparked a strong interest in joining this amazing team of Board of Directors.
What is the most rewarding thing you have taken from this experience?
It is so inspiring to see community members come together to support United Way events. I’m always impressed by the organizations and individuals who work so hard to help our neighbors succeed. Being part of these efforts and witnessing their impact has been incredibly rewarding. It’s also been gratifying to meet new people in our community and to learn more about the resources available to all of us.
What impresses you most about the Itasca area?
I’m continually impressed by the generosity of people in this area—the way they give their time, resources, financial support, and passion to help the whole community. At every United Way event, the pride and dedication shown by volunteers is truly remarkable.
What is one thing about United Way that you think most people don’t know?
I think many people don’t realize the direct and positive impact their donations and volunteer time have. Every dollar and every effort makes a difference—and what’s most meaningful is that all locally donated funds stay right here in Itasca County and the surrounding communities.
What advice would you give to a potential donor who is considering investing in United Way?
With United Way, you can make a difference by donating financially or by giving your time through volunteering. What’s important to know is that your support helps all of us locally. Get involved—because together, we truly are better!
