6 Reasons to Register for the Lumberjack Mile & 5K Today

Are you ready to meet us at the starting line for United Way’s sixth annual Lumberjack Mile and 5K on September 10th? In addition to the in-person 5K and one-mile course, participants can also opt to join the virtual division and complete their run, walk, or jog on the course of their choosing.

While same-day registration is available, we’ve got six good reasons to register early:

1. Earlybird rates: Signing up by August 13th locks you in at a discounted rate. After that, participant fees increase to $35 for adults and $25 for kids. Plus, you’ll get a chance to win a pair of music festival tickets!

2. Swag: Entries receive a race packet, including the 2022 collectible T-shirt uniquely designed by local artist Jenny Farber. Register early to claim yours! A limited number of run shirts are available and tend to sell out by race day.

3. Scenic route: Besides the Lumberjack run, the mighty Mississippi is the backdrop for Grand Rapids Riverfest* taking place the same day. Keep the fun going after the run by enjoying Wilco, Shovels & Rope, Chastity Brown, and local favorite Wild Horses!

*Claim your entry by August 13th to be entered into a drawing for two festival passes.

4. Flannel friendly: Race participants are encouraged to “wear their Lumberjack best,” with many traditionally donning flannel and fake beards. United Way recognizes the best-dressed lumberjacks with an award following the race, as well as recognizing top finishers in the mile and 5K divisions.

5. Improves your health (and your dog’s**): The Lumberjack run is an excellent opportunity to get out and exercise for something worthwhile. Most of all, doing good feels good. Research has shown that there are psychological and emotional benefits to giving, evoking an unparalleled feeling of warmth and goodwill.

**New this year, for a $10 entry fee, your Lumberdog will receive a unique swag bag with a collectible bandana by Give Back Studio.

6. Every mile matters: When you lace up, you make every mile matter, raising money and awareness for United Way’s work to ensure families have the opportunity and access to thrive.
