5 Volunteer Opportunities in March

As winter fades and signs of spring begin to emerge, March offers a fresh opportunity to give back and make a difference. Whether it’s supporting community clean-ups, or lending a hand at local events, this is the perfect time to step up and get involved. Volunteering not only strengthens our communities but also fosters connections, growth, and a renewed sense of purpose. This month, explore new ways to share your time and talents—because even small acts of kindness can create a big impact!

Foster Recovery
Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Do you have a knack for event planning or a heart for offering support to those on their recovery journey? Mission Restart is looking for dedicated volunteers to help empower individuals overcoming substance use disorders. Whether you want to join a planning committee, provide non-emergent phone support, or lend a helping hand at events, your involvement can be a vital part of someone’s fresh start. Learn more.

Inspire the Next Generation
Now through May, make a lasting impact by becoming a mentor in the 4-H Wellbeing program! Positive adult role models are needed to share their skills and interests with young learners. Volunteers will collaborate with a 4-H Extension Educator to create and lead a 30–45-minute hands-on activity, inspiring the next generation through engaging experiences. Get involved.

Spread Luck
United Way is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a Shamrock’n Brunch on March 15 at Rapids Brewing. Volunteers are needed to help in various roles, including checking in attendees and supporting raffle ticket sales. You’ll have a good time participating in the day’s shenanigans. Plus, each volunteer gets a free brunch ticket!   Register.

Sew Comfort
Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital is seeking fidget blanket makers to help ease restlessness and engage senses in dementia patients. As an At-Home Sewing Volunteer, you’ll receive materials and instructions to create blankets on your schedule. Your efforts will enhance comfort, prevent medical equipment interference, and bring peace of mind to families. Sign up.

Expand Flavors in Pantries
Food is more than just nourishment—it’s a connection to culture, family, and tradition. United Way’s Flavors of Our Community initiative invites you to help stock local school food pantries with culturally meaningful ingredients. Whether you assemble pantry packs at home or host a packing party with friends or colleagues, your support ensures everyone has access to familiar and meaningful foods. Learn more.

Bonfire is an online platform, powered by United Way, that matches community members looking to make a difference to volunteer opportunities with local organizations serving the greater Itasca area.  If your organization is interested in posting opportunities, please call Molly Hiipakka, United Way Community Impact Coordinator, at 218-999-7570 to get started.
