Lumberjack Mile & 5K + Pancake Breakfast: Sept. 12th

Grab your favorite flannel shirt and strap on those suspenders because United Way of 1000 Lakes is inviting you to their family-friendly Lumberjack Pancake Breakfast on the grounds of Old Central School in Grand Rapids.

Take part in the third annual Lumberjack Mile and 5K at 9 a.m. followed by a hot pancake breakfast and samplings from chefs dueling for this year’s pancake cook-off title. Breakfast includes a short stack of pancakes heaped with fixings from the toppings bar, sausage links, yogurt parfait, milk or coffee.

Then at 10 a.m. watch or take part in the pancake flip relay race, where teams flip pancakes to the finish line as they compete for the coveted title and ultimate bragging rights.

As delicious as this is going to be, it’s also for a good cause as donations fuel United Way’s annual fund, supporting dozens of local programs and initiatives. Suggested Donation: $6 per adult, and $3 for those ages 6-12. Pick-up and delivery are also available by pre-ordering.

LUMBERJACK MILE & 5K – 8 a.m. registration, 9 a.m. race start
Grab your favorite flannel shirt, strap on those suspenders and join United Way of 1000 Lakes for a family-friendly Mile and 5K fun run. The first 100 registrants are guaranteed the collectible t-shirt. Race packets are available on race day starting at 8 a.m. (T-shirt not guaranteed on race day). Race fees are $25 per adult 13 and older and $15 for ages 6-12. Kids 5 and under have free admittance, however, t-shirts are an additional cost.
VIRTUAL CHALLENGE – now through Sept. 7th
United Way is also pairing the event with a Virtual Challenge to kick start their fundraising efforts. Now through Sept. 7, students, families, friends, and work colleagues can team up and do some good for their community. The challenge is for anyone who wants to have some competitive fun while helping to further impact in the areas of education, income, health. Start a fundraiser today and help provide struggling children with positive mentors; connect Veteran’s and others with mental health and supportive services; and connect families with the crisis services they need to get back on their feet. Individuals raising $100 or more receive a free run entry. Plus, additional prizes awarded to top fundraisers. To become a fundraiser or support a team, call 218-999-7570.
Enjoy a short stack of pancakes, toppings bar (everyone’s favorite), sausage links, yogurt and beverage. Proceeds benefit United Way. Pick-up available.
Cook-off teams (costumes encouraged) will duel for the title of the finest flapjacks around. Celebrity judges will rate aroma, presentation, taste, density, and texture to determine the winners.
