Health and Hygiene Drive: June

Each spring, United Way of 1000 Lakes hosts an annual Health and Hygiene Drive to collect essential toiletries and other small items to help children and adults with basic needs. With the economic impact of COVID-19, even more people are finding that they need to make tough choices – between buying laundry detergent and having food for breakfast, or between filling the car up with gas and buying a pair of shoes. Necessities provided through our personal care drive can help relieve some of the burden. Much needed items include laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, gas cards, toothbrushes, FULL-SIZE toothpaste, hair care products, deodorant, laundry detergent, band-aids, diapers, baby wipes, menstrual products, new washcloths, and hand and bath towels.

Items will be assembled into care packages and distributed to children, veterans, elderly, homeless and vulnerable populations throughout United Way’s service area of Itasca County and surrounding communities.

How you can help

Drop off donations. United Way is offering curbside drop-off for donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 999-7570, and we’ll come outside to pick up your items! Drop off locations include: Deerwood Bank | Itasca ReStore | Klockow Brewing Company| The Reif Center | Super One Foods, Grand Rapids North & SouthWoodland Bank, Hill City

Donate a gas card. The economic impact of COVID-19 on families and individuals means that it’s becoming harder for some to afford transportation. The next time you’re filling up your tank, buy a gas card for a neighbor in need!

Make a personal care package at home. Collect items for a child, adult, or family and pack them into a container, basket, bag, or T-shirt tote. Attach a Personal Care tag to each care package to indicate the age it’s intended for. Care packages can be dropped off at United Way on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Instructions: Personal Care Package | T-shirt Tote | Personal Care Tags

Shop for items from one of our online wish lists to help out while staying safe at home! Items can be shipped directly to United Way. Wish Lists: Target | Amazon
